Tourist Attraction Sites

A number of tourist destinations are preparing programs to welcome visitors during the Lebaran holidays. The Taman Jatim Park in Batu, near Malang will feature traditional entertainment, such as the reog comedy plays, kuda lumping and barongsai dances.

“The visitors will enjoy these attractions because they are not programs they see everyday,” said Titik A. Riyanto, Taman Jatim Park marketing manager, adding that they will also present local bands, modern dances, and magic shows at their Amphitheater.

Another tourist site, Sengkaling in Dau subdistrict will present musical performances by a Malay orchestra. “We are targeting adults,“ Sengkaling Marketing Manager, Yeni Dwika said.

Sengkaling will also add a new kind of entertainment: The Dimension Palace, showing two and three-dimensional animation program and a snow cave. “This will enhance the existing 16 rides,” Yeni said.

Meanwhile, R. Soerjo Botanical Garden Hall that is managing the Cangar tourist site in Batu, offers hot-springs and scenic views. “We hope to receive 5.000 visitors,” said Basunando, head of the environment section.

In Solo, Central Java, the Taru Jurug Animal Park has prepared a program called the ‘2008 Syawalan Week.’ According to the park’s assistant manager, Totok Sunarto, they will feature the traditional Joko Tingkir floats.

However, because the water level of the Bengawan Solo River has drastically gone down, “the Joko Tingkir event is not able to boats, so it will be replaced with the Garebeg Pasa performance at the Kasunanan palace grounds.
