Banthengan (Java Barongsai)

Bantengan typical is a Javanese art. Bantengan costumes are usually made of black cloth and a mask shaped like a bull's head made of wood. Bantengan always accompanied by a group of people who play special music with instruments bantengan of gongs, drums, and others. Bantengan is played by two men, one in the front of the head, and one in the back of the tail. and usually, the front man would become possessed, and the people behind him would follow his every move. Quite often people in the back also possessed. However, very rare person in the back of a trance while the front is not. Bantengan helped to become possessed by a person (male) who wore red clothing commonly called abangan. Bantengan also always accompanied by macanan. Macanan costumes are made of colored cloth (usually orange-yellow stripes), which is used by a man. This usually helps macanan possessed and held bantengan when kesurupannya up too fierce. but not less macanan also possessed. macanan always bantengan and never missed seventeen karnafal enliven August. if they possessed no strength to continue karnafal, then there are those who replace him. bantengan arts cultural activists scattered in many regions around the Mountains Arjuno-Welirang, Anjasmoro, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru and Kawi Mountains of East Java.
